FRANÇOIS MARÉCHAL. XILOGRAFIA.

Pertenece a una serie de xilografias con temática que parece de personajes venezolanos. No sabemos mas de esta serie solo que el estilo y la firma son, inequívocamente, del artista francés afincado en España Francois Maréchal

Framcois Marechal Nació en Normandía en 1938, en Evreux. Su padre le enseñó a dibujar los patos y gansos que abundan por las lagunas del suroeste francés y ahí quizá comenzó una trayectoria artística que quedaría dominada por el uso del grabado en madera. Estudia Bellas Artes en Le Mans, y en sus clases fue disciplinado en las maneras de Durero y Goya. Éste último, unido a un servicio militar realizado en Argelia, influiría en sus crudas escenas de guerra. Enamorado de una madrileña recaló en España en 1963.

Por esas fechas encontró un catálogo de Shiko Mnakata y le llamó la atención la simplicidad de las formas y los contrastes, realizando en 1967 su primera xilografía, “Anciana”, grabada en una tabla de madera de cocina e impresa a mano. Insistente, continuó indagando hasta exponer en 1968. Desde 1975, trabaja también la madera a la testa recreándose en la precisión que permite. En 1978 el grabador Dimitri Papageorgiu le enseña a manejarse con el aguafuerte y la litografía.

Fue miembro de Xilón Francia  desde 1977 hasta 1983. En 1984 hace una exposición en la Biblioteca Nacional de Madrid y repite dos años más tarde en la Calcografía. A partir de ahí se suceden las muestras convirtiéndose en uno de los pocos artistas actuales que han triunfado sólo con su faceta de grabador. En 1991 es nombrado Académico y reparte su labor entre Madrid y Aix, en la Provenza francesa.

Framcois Marechal Born in Normandy in 1938, in Evreux. His father taught him how to draw the ducks and geese that abound in the lagoons of southwestern France and there perhaps began an artistic career that would be dominated by the use of wood engraving. He studied Fine Arts at Le Mans, and in his classes he was disciplined in the ways of Dürer and Goya. This last one, together with a military service carried out in Algeria, would influence its crude war scenes. In love with a woman from Madrid, she came to Spain in 1963.

At that time he found a catalog of Shiko Mnakata and he was struck by the simplicity of the forms and contrasts, making in 1967 his first woodcut, "Elder", engraved on a wooden kitchen board and printed by hand. Insistent, he continued investigating until exposing in 1968. Since 1975, he also works wood to the testa, recreating himself in the precision that he allows. In 1978 the engraver Dimitri Papageorgiu teaches him to deal with etching and lithography.

He was a member of Xilón Francia from 1977 to 1983. In 1984 he made an exhibition at the National Library of Madrid and repeated two years later in Calcografía. From then on, the samples become one of the few current artists who have triumphed only with his facet of engraver. In 1991 he is named Academician and distributes his work between Madrid and Aix, in the French Provence.
