El megalodón o megalodonte (Carcharodon megalodon o Carcharocles megalodon), nombre que significa "diente grande", derivado de los términos griegosμέγας (mega, "grande") y ὀδούς (odon, "diente"), es una especie extinta de tiburón que vivió aproximadamente entre 19,8 y 2,6 millones de años atrás, durante el Cenozoico (de inicios del Mioceno1 hasta el final del Plioceno).2
