AC/DC

- is one of the most influential and successful rock bands in music history.

It was founded in 1973 by brothers Angus and Malcolm Young in Sydney, Australia.

The band is known for their energetic live performances, their powerful hard rock style and timeless anthems that inspire fans all over the world.

Here is a detailed overview of the history and significance of AC/DC:

Foundation and early years (1973-1975)

AC/DC was formed by Scottish-born brothers Angus Young (lead guitar) and Malcolm Young (rhythm guitar), who had emigrated to Australia.

The band's name comes from a label on the back of a sewing machine, which stands for ‘Alternating Current/Direct Current’ - a reference to the energy and power of their music.

The original line-up consisted of Dave Evans (vocals), Colin Burgess (drums), Larry Van Kriedt (bass), Malcolm and Angus Young. After Dave Evans left the band, charismatic vocalist Bon Scott joined the group and the classic AC/DC formula began to evolve.

Their first albums, ‘High Voltage’ (1975) and ‘T.N.T.’, were released in Australia and showcased their unmistakable style: raw, riff-driven rock ‘n’ roll.

Breakthrough with Bon Scott (1975-1980)

In 1976, AC/DC signed an international record deal and released a revised version of ‘High Voltage’ worldwide.

The band toured extensively throughout Europe and North America to build a fan base.

‘Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap’ (1976) and “Let There Be Rock” (1977) showcased their raw, uncompromising sound.

However, the breakthrough came in 1979 with ‘Highway to Hell’, which became a worldwide success.

The title song is one of the most famous rock anthems of all time.

The tragic death of Bon Scott (1980)

Bon Scott died tragically of alcohol poisoning on 19 February 1980.

His death was a heavy blow for the band, who briefly considered disbanding. But with the support of Scott's family, they decided to carry on.

Brian Johnson and ‘Back in Black’ (1980-1983)

With Brian Johnson as the new singer, AC/DC returned to the studio and recorded ‘Back in Black’, which was intended as a tribute to Bon Scott. The album was released in 1980 and was an instant success. With hits such as ‘You Shook Me All Night Long’, ‘Hells Bells’ and the title track ‘Back in Black’, it became one of the best-selling albums of all time (over 50 million copies worldwide).

It was followed by ‘For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)’ (1981), which was another huge success and finally established the band as global rock icons.

With over 200 million albums sold worldwide, AC/DC is one of the most successful rock bands in history. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003 and are known for their intransigence towards trends and their unadulterated sound. Classics such as ‘Highway to Hell’, ‘Back in Black’ and ‘Thunderstruck’ are timeless anthems that are still celebrated worldwide decades after their release.

AC/DC

-is more than just a band - they are an institution of rock.

With their energy, their dedication to music and their ability to unite generations of fans, they have secured themselves an immortal place in music history.
