Wilhelm Lambrecht (1834-1904) mecánico, óptico y meteorológico construcctor de instrumentos en Göttingen, diseñó este tipo de higrómetro de pelo, alrededor de 1880. La firma permanece todavía activa y se advierte como "Especialistas en predicciones meteorológicas desde 1859"

Este aparato era ofrecido como el mejor instrumento jamás construido para predecir heladas y predicciones del tiempo

Wilhelm Lambrecht (1834-1904), a mechanical, optical and meteorological instrument maker in Göttingen, designed this type of hair hygrometer around 1880. The firm remains in business, advertising as "The Weather Specialists Since 1859."

Lambrecht Polymeter: A Combination of Hair Hygrometer and Mercury Thermometer. This hygrometer-thermometer instrument combination allows reading of relative and absolute humidity, temperature, dew point temperature, saturation pressure and partial pressure of the water vapor. The measuring element of the hygrometer consist of a group of treated human hairs 20 cm long. Wilhelm Lambrecht, the founder of the company, started manufacturing meteorological measuring instruments in 1859 in his Gottingen workshop.

A hygrometer measures the amount of humidity in the air. The atmosphere always carries a certain amount of water vapour, the proportion of which varies with temperature. The warmer the air the more moisture it will contain. As air becomes colder the water vapour in it condenses into moisture to produce dew or frost. In a mist or fog the air is completely saturated and this is called 100% humidity.

Brass frame with thermometer. Hair element runs the length of instrument. Dial with bevelled glass, displays dew point calculations.

Wilhelm Lambrecht started making measuring instruments in Einbeck in 1859. In 1864 he opened a factory in Goettingen. He developed a hair hygrometer sometime around 1867. In 1873 he started building meteorological instruments such as psychrometers and polymeters. Wilhelm Lambrecht died in 1904 but his company remains a major instrument manufacturer still located in Goettingen. It was called 'W. Lambrecht KG' after 1923 and 'Wilh Lambrecht GmbH' after 1980.
