Magnificent Italian painting from the first half of the 19th century. Painting oil on panel depicts a splendid Virgin Mary, of remarkable pictorial quality. The young woman is portrayed in a devotional pose, her gaze turned upward, bathed in a luminous aura. Her face is angelic, with soft, idealized features, her hair loose on her shoulders and covered by a light, transparent veil. Her dress is sumptuous: a pink tunic with green and gold embroidery and a blue cloak with marvelous draping.
Derived from Italian Neoclassicism, the artwork is attributed to the great painter Pelagio Palagi (1775-1860). Painting on panel, a technique favored by both Palagi and his rival Francesco Hayez, allowed him to achieve highly refined effects in the enameled tones of the colors, the diffused luminosity, and the gradual transitions of chiaroscuro. (The painting is not currently accompanied by an expertise, but one can be requested upon payment of the relevant additional costs.)
It features a handwritten inscription on the back, "Property of Mr. Ambrogio Baduelli," and a sealing wax stamp, likely indicating its ownership by an important collection or trust. Ideal for classical or eclectic settings, the work is perfect for a study or bedroom. It is not just a painting, but a luminous and spiritual presence that gracefully inhabits the space. The beautifully decorated, contemporary frame in carved and gilded wood shows some signs of aging. Overall, the artwork is in good condition. Internal dimensions: H 60 x W 46 cm.
