El libro es un resumen biográfico sobre Antoni Gaudí, uno de los máximos exponentes del modernismo catalán.
El autor, Cèsar Martinell i Brunet (1888-1973), fue un arquitecto catalán, discípulo de Gaudí.
Martinell fundó la entidad "Amics de Gaudí" en 1952 y el "Centre d'Estudis Gaudinistes" en 1958, dedicados a la difusión de la obra de Gaudí.
Debido a su estrecha relación y profundo conocimiento de Gaudí, Martinell fue responsable de la restauración de varias de sus obras, como la Casa Batlló, la Casa Milà y la cripta de la Colonia Güell.
