In 1764, with the highest permission of Empress Catherine II, the Nikolsko-Bakhmetev Crystal Factory was founded by retired military officer Alexei Ivanovich Bakhmetev (1729-1799) on his estate in the village of Nikolsko-Pestrovka in the Penza province. The factory produced dishes and serving items, elements of palace decoration made of crystal in silver, gold and bronze decor, including lamps of various types and shapes.
