Paris Flammarion 1896-1897. The French poet Maurice Bouquets musical compilation of social songs, Red Songs, was published in Paris in 1896. When Bouquet broke with the labor movement by becoming a senator and a cabinet minister in Brienne, the social newspaper La Guerre Social reprinted a number of these Red Songs, the most popular of which were the Red Sun and the Red Mill (Moulin Rouge), put to music and invariably performed by the famous chansonnier Marcel Leguet.
