DE Gilberto Espinosa / Tibo J. Chávez. Pampa Print Shop. Pampa, Texas, 1966. TEXTO EN INGLÉS. 269 Pages Indexed. Inscribed to Piluca on the title page by author dated july 21, 1988. Illustrated throughout with maps, drawings, and black and white photographs. The authors main attention centered on Belen and surrounding areas that today are outstanding among the cities of the Rio Abajo. On the west bank of the Rio Grande, Belen is 18 miles south of historic Isleta Pueblo and is in the near shadow of Albuquerque, first city of our State. It is to this city Belen owes its birth, and has from infancy to adult years been constantly identified. Belen, qualified as a Royal Town Grant settlement on November 15, 1740, was for a brief period under the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of Isleta. However, it soon assumed its proper identity as the core center of all settlements in this area. There were scattered "Haciendas" and groups of settlers throughout this entire area long before Belen came into existence and even before the 1680 pueblo rebellion. It was after the Vargas Reconquest (1693) that these re-established areas assumed a new identity as Town Settlements, Land Grants and Haciendas. 22 X 15.
