"The Cuban bartender, is an artist with five finely tuned senses and a sixth sense: the sense of the cocktail".
Héctor Zumbado (Havana, 1932-2016)
The cocktail in Cuba emerged at the end of the 19th century, but it was not until the beginning of the 20th century that it reached its greatest splendor. The dry law in the United States, the arrival of numerous tourists in Cuba made many businessmen move brigades of cantineros.
Many bartenders arrived in Havana, not only from the United States, but also from many other important tourist centers of the time, who merged with Cuban bartenders, many of Spanish origin, a fusion that created a school of their own style that enriched the world's cocktails based on the prestigious Cuban light rum.
Prestigious bartenders enriched the history of Cuban cocktails: Constante Ribalaigua, from "Floridita" and his famous daiquiri, Emilio Gonzalez "Maragato", Eddy Woelke, Fred Kaufman, just to mention a few.
