Meudon, 1981. 216 pages, 307 large b/w photographs of objects, 8 full-page color photographs of objects, 12 field photographs, 13 maps. Cloth cover. This handsome, out of print volume functioned principally as the catalogue for a large collection of Southeast Asian primitive art objects owned by the book's author. Including material not only from the regions indicated in the title, but also from Celebes, Moluccas, Lesser Sunda Islands, Nias, Indonesian New Guinea, Burma, Vietnam, and Taiwan. The large, handsome photographs provide an excellent overview of the primitive art objects from this part of the globe--much of which first started appearing on the art market in the late sixties. Many of the objects in the collection are very good; some are exceptional. The slim text, in French and English, provides a brief introduction to each area and data and an interpretation of each pictured object.
