This remarkable work deals with the era from the first tentative production of French hard porcelain through the middle of the 19th century. A historical survey of the major factories includes the workshops of the Comte d'Artois, the Comte de Provence, the Queen of France, the Duc d'Angoulême, the Darte Brothers, Dihl and Guérard, Dagoty and Honoré and Jacob-Petit. Among the 242 color and b/w illustrations are photographs of chinaware from museums and private and public collections in France, Great Britain, the United States, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, and Switzerland.
