- Edgar Degas (1834-1917) fue un pintor, escultor y grabador francés. Considerado uno de los fundadores del impresionismo, aunque él mismo lo llamaba realismo. Fue uno de los grandes dibujantes de la historia por su magistral captación de las sensaciones de vida y movimiento, especialmente en sus obras de bailarinas, carreras de caballos y desnudos.

- El cuadro es muy famoso, llamado El ajenjo, conocido como La bebedora de absenta. Obra pictórica ambientada en el Café de las Nouvelle Athénes en la plaza Pigalle, de París. Representa a dos figuras, una mujer y un hombre que están sentados en el centro de la pintura y a la derecha, respectivamente. Delante de ella un vaso lleno de líquido verdoso, ajenjo. Ambos están embriagados.
