Pipa de agua, metal y esmalte cloisonné, s. XIX – China

Exquisita pipa de agua realizada en metal con decoraciones en cloisionné, realizada a finales del siglo XIX en China. Presenta una refinada decoración de flores de loto que resaltan sobre el fondo oscuro. Estructura sencilla, en la parte principal y decorada se vierte el agua; tiene una tapa que presenta sello en caracteres chinos. Gran boquilla estilizada para fumar, además de dos punzones para el tabaco, unidos por una cadena. Comúnmente llamada pipa de opio, se usaba para fumar tabaco o tabaco húmedo (narguile). El uso de la pipa de agua para fumar se introdujo en China a finales de la dinastía Ming (syllabus XVI), junto con el tabaco, a través de Persia y la Ruta de la Seda. Durante la dinastía Qing, se convirtió en el método más popular de fumar tabaco, y se popularizó en la República.

Exquisite water pipe made of metal with cloisonné decorations, made in the late 19th century in China. It has a refined decoration of lotus flowers that stand out against the dark background. Simple structure, the main and decorated part is where the water is poured; it has a lid with a stamp in Chinese characters. Large stylized mouthpiece for smoking, as well as two punches for tobacco, joined by a chain. Commonly called an opium pipe, it was used to smoke tobacco or moist tobacco (narghile). The use of the water pipe for smoking was introduced into China at the end of the Ming Dynasty (syllabus XVI), along with tobacco, through Persia and the Silk Road. During the Qing Dynasty, it became the most popular method of smoking tobacco, and was popularized in the Republic.
