THE HOBBIT - An Illustrated Edition - TOLKIEN - Harry N. Abrams, Inc (1977)

This is the first fully illustrated Deluxe Edition with the original text of the classic. The illustrations and cinematic sequence drawings are based on the animated film by Arthur Rankin, Jr. and Jules Bass. The book is in Near Fine condition and its clear dustjacket is in Very Good Plus condition, with a couple of small chips missing from the spine ends, one closed tear repair with clear archival tape to stop the splitting. Very slight amount of shelfwear or rubbing to the lower edge of the book. The dustjacket shows almost no rubbing to the white lettering of 'The Hobbit' on the front or rear panel, no color loss to the red colored dragons noted. The binding is still tight and strong, no splitting to the endpapers as is common. The dustjacket is of clear mylar with a colorful illustration of Smaug swooping down on the Dwarves and Bilbo on the front boards, and Smaug resting on his mound of treasure on the rear boards. The mylar dustjacket has the aforementioned chips and repaired tear, still shows remarkably well, with nice bright colors to the dustjacket and underlying covers. Very unusual for one to have survived this well. No marks or writing, names or inscriptions noted. The book is in Near Fine condition, with over 230 full color illustrations. This full fledged picture book version, contains the full text of The Hobbit, and will be loved by young and old alike.
