The Enormous Radio and Other Stories by John Cheever, published in 1953, is a fantastic collection of short stories that helped cement Cheever's reputation as a master of American fiction. The title story, The Enormous Radio, is a surreal and darkly humorous tale about a couple whose lives are disturbed when they get a new radio that picks up the private conversations of their neighbors. It's a great example of Cheever's skill at blending the ordinary with the unsettling.
If you have a 1953 hardback edition, that's a notable collectible, especially since first editions of Cheever’s works can be highly sought after by collectors of mid-20th-century American literature.
